first of all, i didnt know this item was an "open box" special when i purchased it. i dont remember it ever saying that. the mfg box was ripped up and looked like heck. the radio looked good, and appeared to be new. but was missing the fm antenna. seems like these radios require a strong signal to perform well. i received a 10 buck refund for the antenna being lost. tried several different antenna wires, and antennas, none of them worked that well. the am now doesnt work at all just hissing noise. so now im stuck with it. the display is hard to read also.

This used tuner was received from the vendor in a timely fashion and was complete and in good condition as advertised. After setup, it worked for about 30 minutes, then lost its signal and the display froze. Cycling the power got it working again for a few minutes when it failed again. As a used and not too expensive unit, I decided not to send it back and opened the case, which has no ventilation. This tuner appears to have a serious design defect, which may be why Best Buy seems to have discontinued it. A portion of the tuner gets very hot and is not adequately heatsinked. Just using the tuner with the top of the case off might keep it running, but I'm anticipating having to add additional heatsinking, cutting ventilation openings in the case top and probably adding a small fan. None of this is very difficult or expensive for an electronics hobbyist, but means that most individuals should probably not buy one of these tuners. Too bad - when it's working, it works well.

Good low price. Worked great when I got it. One month later, the HD portion quit working. In the troubleshooting section(only 4 items listed) it mentions "HD not working" reason "static discharge might have destroyed the micro computer". Since that's listed, they know that it's a problem and haven't fixed it. Disappointing.
